Who's Out - Week 7

Constantine Maroulis

Ok so he sucked, sucked, sucked...but after giving us several amazing performances, I really didn't think he was out the door. Apparently though America decided that this wasn't Broadway Idol after all and sent him packing!! And really...it's a good thing!!!

American Idol - Week 7

So we are down to the final 6...a six-pack so to speak. The theme this week...music since the "millineum"...should have given us lots of music that both showed off the contestants vocal prowess and also allowed we as listeners to sing along...since presumably we all would know the songs. Well, that turned out to be partly true. Most of the songs we knew, but unfortunately most of the performances fizzled. The 6 year old in my house gave thumbs up to two of the performances...the rest were boring enough that he got up and went to bed. I probably should have done the same. It was a boring night that seemed to go on a bit too long...thanks in part to the "biography" pieces.

Maybe my mood is a bit off today, but I just couldn't get too excited about last night. I think I have a good bottom 4...but am harder pressed to come up with a bottom 3. Last week I picked correctly...thankfully...can you imagine what Anwar would have tried to sing...another rendition of the "flying" disaster he gave us a couple of weeks ago...ugh. This week, the "flying disaster" award has to go to Constantine...who sucked so hard I thought the chrome was going to come off of the mic stand. Then again, he wasn't the only one. Well, before I get too up in a lather...

here goes...

Carrie Underwood - When God Fearin' Women Get The Blues

This past week, I saw Paula on a morning TV show raking Carrie over the coals for her consistently "bad" performances. Last night, Paula continued to be completely "off"...poor thing, despite her many protestations, she really, really needs to get off the triple Vs (for those that don't remember...vodka/valium/vicodin). Anyway, Carrie didn't have her best night...but even on her worst nights she pretty much blows away the competition. Can't say I was blown away...but still one of the better performances.

Bo Bice - I Don't Wanna Be

Best performance of the night! Of course, leave it to Paula to latch onto a Randy word..."honest"...in describing Bo. Honest wouldn't be my choice of words...then again, maybe it isn't such a bad word. Bo doesn't change...the teeth, the hair...the gawd-awful selection of clothes. But the biggest thing that doesn't change is his consistent vocal performances!! Yeah, he was right to sing "I don't wanna be anything other than who I am!" Heck, if I had that voice and that stage presence I wouldn't be changin' it either.

Vonzell Solomon - I Turn To You

Yeah well, what to say about a performance that made the hair on the back of my neck stand up and scream for a mercy killing?! Something must not translate in the TV playback. She's a cool chick and she's hot...but Randy lost some of my respect by welcoming her to the "dogg pound" based on that performance. Her vocals can best be described using Simon's words to Paula and Randy..."I have a horrible feeling that that wasn't as good as you think." Boy did he nail that one to the wall!! Horrible was right!

Anthony Federov - I Surrender

Ok Anthony, here's a thought...a cute little blonde haired, blue-eyed boy singing Celine Dion will always leave people with a question in their head. In fact, I was so busy pondering the meaning of that song selection that I failed to hear what you were singing. I wonder if I was the only one? I have a sinking feeling I wasn't. Not that you did a bad job...during play back I realized you did a fairly good job...but not good enough to keep you out of the bottom three. I do think you will probably be safe this week as it wasn't the WORST performance of the night. My fingers were certainly itching although not to pick up the phone and vote...rather, to scratch my head.

Constantine Maroulis - How You Remind Me

Ok, Constantine proved my point...he should ONLY do musical theater. NEVER, EVER, EVER do rock again!! That sucked so back I thought my TV was going to implode. If he hadn't done so well last week, I would be telling him to pack his bags!! Damn, Damn, Damn...just horrid! I wanted to start throwing up...thankfully ALL the judges agreed with me!! All he reminded me of was how much I hated him before!! I won't forget that lesson for a long, long, long time!!

Scott Savol - Dance With My Father

Thank you Simon for verbalizing what we all felt after that performance!! Not as bad as Constantine, but after so many sub-par performances, this one makes him the odds-on favorite to get on the big white plane back to Shaker Heights! I've got to give him props in that he's stayed around MUCH longer that he probably should have...but, as Simon said, "Pack your bags!"

And with that...I'm out!
